Bowdon Killer Bee's 1- Alderley 1

With most of the country under dark skies, the Killer Bees enjoyed an early morning fixture against an Alderley 5th team under blue skies, however as they say, the sun always shines on the righteous. The Alderley 5th team comprised of at least five of their 2nd team, however the Killer Bees were themselves strengthened with guest appearances by Tubby in nets, and the Chairman rolling back the years and marshalling midfield. However this advantage was quickly eroded away by the loss after two minutes of the silky skills of Phil Rainford with a knackered knee. He retired to umpiring duties and was replaced some ten minutes later by Andy Scowcroft. Andy should have been umpiring from the start but at push back time was still choosing furniture in Ikea. The changes impacted on Bowdon, who conceded an early goal, and if it hadn't been for the heroics of Tubby in nets would have conceded two or three by half time.

Second half Bowdon played with far more fluency by passing the ball short and to a man. They deservedly equalized through Andy Scowcroft who smashed the ball into the top corner after Bowdon had won the short corner. Bowdon could have snatched a win in the dying moments when a couple of chances fell to Stuart Buckeridge, however the shock of not only completing the Dublin marathon but also becoming engaged was all too much and he fired the ball wide.

A draw was a fair result as neither team deserved to lose. The highlight of the morning was the skipper taking the roof of his prized Marcos, driving through Wilmslow with the hood down only to drive through the Airport tunnels and find it pissing down on the other side!
