Southport 2 - Bowdon Killer Bees 1

The match seemed to start on Monday 25th February when The Bees seemed to have a surplus of players to select from as The Wasps had no match. In fact it looked like the dream team. By Saturday all I could do was dream of sending a team of 11 players.

On Saturday therefore 9 players proudly stepped out onto the pitch hoping that the left winger lent to us by the opposition would be as successful as the borrowed player had been the previous week who had scorded his first 4 goals ever in a hockey career. Certainly the guest player found himself with 4 open goal scoring opportunities but unfortunately that is where the similarities finished. (Hmmm, sounds very similar to Yokker actually! - Ed)

Kirch was playing in goal and saw his post hit twice within the first five minutes. Bowdon were taking their usual time to work out where everybody was actually playing! Against the run of play Yokker stepped up to smash us into the lead from a well worked short corner routine. ( I didn't know we actually had any routines!)

Southport equalised before the end of the first half and then it was a closely fought match with end to end excitement (Are you sure you have used the correct word here, Rog? Excitement is defined in the Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary as "A state of aroused or increased vital activity in an organism, or any of its organs or tissues.". Sounds a bit iffy to me, frankly, but then I wasn't there - Ed). However this was mostly due to Southport knocking us over all the time. Yokker took the worst of it being tripped, hit, charged into etc etc whilst one proud player was thought to have been heard to scream "Nurse, can you take away the pain but leave the swelling!!!"

A late goal by Southport meant the match finished 2-1 to Southport and whilst a disappointment we left the match proud of what we had achieved with 9 men and one guest player.
