Bowdon Killer Bees 4 - Deeside VI 0

Another beautiful day in Bowdon, and on astro. The perfect conditions for the Bee’s unique brand of champagne hockey! The day got off to an inauspicious start with the oppo missing three players and a keeper, but eventually everybody turned up and the game was on….

The Bees started in a 3-3-3 formation and quickly began to dominate play. What few changes chances Deeside created were snuffed out by the Bees’ excellent defense. So confident was I that I even ventured in to oppo’s half, and in what I can only describe as finishing of the highest caliber, I scored the Bee’s first goal. I have heard many stories of how this wonder goal was scored but here is the definitive version: I received the ball at the top of the Dee with 7 men to beat, I took the defense wide left and left them for dead with my silky stick skills. I then hit a reverse stick shot into the bottom left hand corner of the goal. The pace on the ball was deceptive, and left the Deeside keeper wallowing in the centre of the goal. I have heard rumors that I didn’t mean it, and that the shot trickled in, I can only conclude that the people spreading these lies are jealous of my superior hockey skills. The Bees were lifted by this show of brilliance and continued to dominate. After piling on more pressure, Jonny Grant popped up and slotted the ball into the back of the Deeside goal. The Bees finished the half twoup.

Thankfully the Bees were spared the usual inspiring team talk from our fearless leader, the rotund one having realized that we tend to lose after a dose of his oratory. Deeside pushed more men forward from the start of the second half, and strengthened their team with some substitutions. The Bees went off the boil and seemed to sit on their two goal lead. But the defense was resolute, and despite giving away a few short corners, never looked like being troubled. After soaking up the pressure, the Bees started to play again, and Dave Phillips knocked one in to put the Bees three up. That brings us to the fourth goal…. Deeside gave away a short corner, and up stepped the man with the quiff. I believe he chose set piece number three, but something obviously went wrong as the ball screamed into the back of the net. Post match, he claimed that he meant it, but suspicions abound that it was meant for the man on the post….

Anyway, an excellent performance from the Bees, against a jolly decent bunch of chaps from Deeside. A clean sheet for the defense, and a wonder goal from yours truly. What more could anybody ask for?
