Bowdon Killer Bees 8 - 2 Sefton

Having the luxury of writing the report I can only start by congratulating the team on the impressive win. Honoured by the wet pitch playing in rain the Bees lifted their wings and took the game to Sefton.

An impressive start; Bowdon dominating the game won a short corner. Having launched a short corner push out into the opposite half in the game last week, the pressure was on to keep the ball on the ground, and it was, and what an impressive push, returned by our leader the ball was skillfully slotted into the back of the net. That was it for me........ what a goal. Starting the game one up in the first five minutes allowed the rest of the team to relax and show their skills.

Bowdon continued to pressure Sefton and despite Sefton getting a consolation goal, our star player Mr Brogden... signed only 30 minutes before the game, slotted in a second goal (well I think he did it sounds good). Sefton continued to try and clear the ball but Bowdons tight marking prevented them from gaining control. This was a lesson we learnt last week.

Half time a well deserved team talk.

Team talk went something like this...... OK ... well played .... keep marking and pass the ball... there were other comments but I can't remember. The officials were keen to restart the game.

Another good start, Bowdon continued to score goals and with our golfing forward Yokker wellied a ball from a short corner into the right hand corner. Sefton's forward, (despite a solid defence) managed to score through four of us. Bowdon continued to dominate the game and scored more goals Sefton managed to get into our half and had a number of shots on goal, the defence yet again was on form and prevented them scoring.

The final result 8 - 2 to Bowdon was well deserved. Man of the match... that's difficult but I am looking forward to being selected for the first team in the new year. Everyone played well and lets hope we remain as strong in the New Year.

(A quick thank you to the two Fishies for turning out for the Bees, and to Angus & John for umpiring. I think Gareth eventually staggered out of the club & blew the last few minutes. Badly, obviously... As to our ringer, well the Bees don't play ringers very often so when we do we may as well go for the top! Ho! Ho! Congrats to Stephen Brogden for playing a very well spirited game of hockey with us all - no doubt the temptation to just run rings round everyone was there, but the ball was passed about instead, so Sefton weren't too hardly done by! Obviously there was the occassional reverse stick slice towards the net but you've got to allow the youth of today some fun, eh? This has set an interesting level of expectation from the rest of the team when Yokker returns to this position in 2004... )
